Smooth out those unwanted wrinkles and folds.
As we age, connective tissues within the skin break down, making facial folds more noticeable. Dermal fillers are used to boost elasticity and vitality, resulting in a more youthful appearance. As facial shapes change over time, we always use biodegradable products, so that future treatments can be adjusted to suit.
Hyaluronic acids these are the most commonly used fillers and have a long established record of safety and efficacy.
Restylane, Perlane (Q-med) and Juvederm ultra (Allergan) are administered by our medical practitioner and the procedures give quick results. They are based on hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the body, and are safe to use without pre-testing. Depending on the thickness of the gel, they correct thin superficial lines, such as those found around the mouth, forehead lines and smile lines. They can shape facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, and corrects deep folds. They are suitable for volume augmentation of the lips, or if preferred subtle lip definition. The effects last from 8-12 months , however the first treatment may not last quite as long. Lip enhancement usually needs more frequent treatments, but may still last 6 months or more. Both fillers contain Lidocaine: a built in local anesthetic to make the whole injection process a more comfortable experience.
Other Fillers
Radiesse is used to smooth out deeper facial folds and creases. It is a long-lasting dermal filler that reduces lines and wrinkles. It contains synthetic calcium hydroxyl apatite, which is naturally compatible with the body. It occasionally offers advantages over other fillers; you will usually see results that last for a year, possibly more.
Sculptra restores volume. Based on poly-L-lactic acid, it is injected deep into the dermis, or subcutaneous layer. It works in the lower layers of the skin to create volume and firm the treated area of the face. Positive results should be noticeable approximately six weeks after the course of treatments and should last for up to two years. It is particularly good for general skin rejuvenation and "plumping-up".
Anesthetic/pain relief cream (Emla) can be applied topically and often dental blocks are used. The new constitution of fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm often reduces the need for local anesthetic, according to patient preference.
We will always advise you as to the best treatment for your skin.
After Care
A pure make-up can be applied afterwards. We have an extensive range of mineral make-up available for this purpose. Avoid irritants such as perfumed soaps etc.
Immediately after the treatment, there may be slight redness/discoloration, swelling, tenderness or even pain and itching at the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a day or two. You may use a hydrocortisone 1% cream or ointment up to three times daily.
In the case of lip treatments these reactions may last longer, up to a week, and the lips can look somewhat uneven. This means that the result directly after the treatment should not be looked upon as the final result.
If these reactions do not settle or if other reactions occur, please contact the clinic.
Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. sun beds). Brief applications of ice-packs can help reduce swelling.
It is helpful to gently massage the treated areas for approx 30 seconds , 2-3 times daily for 2-3 days.
If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another cold sore eruption. These can be treated with acyclovir cream or a prophylactic course of acyclovir tablets.
If you are using aspirin or anti-inflammatories such as Neurofen/Ibuprofen, be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site. It is advisable to stop taking these at least 48 hours prior to treatment.
